The Bakery Commerce and Industry Association announced, in Coimbra, the big winners of the National Competition “The Best King Cake in Portugal” 2025, which evaluated proposals in five categories: King Cake, Queen, Escangalhado, Innovation and Christmas Braid.
In the five categories, after a selection of a total of 230 examples, 67 proposals from 39 pastry shops across the country, most from the north and center, made it to the final. The competition jury evaluated it in a blind taste and awarded the prize for “The Best Bolo-Rei in Portugal” 2025, to a famous pastry shop in Lisbon, which won for the second year in a row: Aloma.
In the Innovation category, it was the Indian pastry shop, from Vila Verde, in the district of Braga, which won the first prize. The prize for the best queen cake went to Confeitaria Rainha 5, in São João da Madeira, the prize for the best cake went to Bakery and Pastelaria Neiva, in Vila Verde, and the prize for the Christmas braid went to Padaria e Pastelaria Dionísio, in Figueira da Foz.
