The 47th CISM World Military Parachuting Championships, held in Doha from November 13 to 23, provided an impressive platform for 236 athletes from 28 nations to showcase their skills. The Republic of Korea secured overall victory in the women’s event, while Germany triumphed in the men’s event. These achievements were based on their consistent performance in the disciplines of precision landing, formation jumping and style.
The CISM, the International Military Sports Federation, follows the motto “Friendship through Sport” and has a long-standing collaboration with the FAI and its Skydiving Commission. This partnership is reflected in the high technical standards and international camaraderie seen at this year’s championship.
Germany enjoyed one of its strongest tournaments, highlighted by Robin Griesheimer’s victories in male style and later male precision landing, which gave him the overall style and precision landing title. Griesheimer, 28, said after his victory in style that years of training had finally paid off and he was proud of his achievement.
Austria’s Michael Urban, 23, delivered an outstanding junior performance by winning two gold medals, underlining a strong championship for Austria, whose men’s delegation finished third overall. Urban emphasized that winning his first CISM Junior gold medal in precision landing in Qatar was a special moment for him, especially given the challenging conditions with strong winds.
The championship received widespread recognition for its organization, hospitality and the quality of the venues. The Qatar Air Sports Committee, the Qatar Armed Forces and the Qatari delegation to CISM provided facilities and support of world-class standards, with many participants expressing a strong desire to return.
Alberto Martin Paracuellos, president of the FAI Skydiving Commission, praised the event as a showcase of the best the sport has to offer. He congratulated the organizers on an excellently executed event and the participants on their skills, concentration and determination.
