Anthropic, a promising AI startup founded by former OpenAI employees, recently announced significant partnerships with Microsoft and NVIDIA. These strategic alliances include billions of dollars in investments and are aimed at further strengthening Anthropic’s AI models and ensuring their availability on leading cloud platforms.

As part of these partnerships, Anthropic has committed to investing $30 billion in leveraging Microsoft Azure. This investment will enable Anthropic to leverage up to 1 gigawatt of data center infrastructure powered by NVIDIA’s latest rack-scalable AI platforms. For their part, Microsoft and NVIDIA have committed to investing up to $5 billion and $10 billion, respectively, in Anthropic.

This announcement marks a turning point for Anthropic, which previously raised $8 billion from Amazon and named Amazon Web Services as its primary AI training partner. Google has also invested $3 billion in Anthropic, with Google Cloud serving as another cloud provider. These new partnerships show how large AI companies are increasingly focusing on circular spending models, where money flows between multiple parties.

The collaboration with Microsoft will expand the availability of Anthropic’s Claude models to Azure AI Foundry customers. These include models such as Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1 and Claude Haiku 4.5. These models will be the only ones of their kind available on all three of the world’s leading cloud services. Microsoft is also committed to continuing access to Claude for the Copilot family, including GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio.

On the NVIDIA side, a deep technological partnership with Anthropic is sought. The goal is to optimize Anthropic’s models for the best possible performance, efficiency and total cost. In addition, future NVIDIA architectures will be optimized for Anthropic’s workloads. NVIDIA’s planned use of 1 gigawatt of computing capacity will consist of the Grace Blackwell systems introduced last year, as well as the upcoming Vera Rubin systems expected in the second half of the year.
