Rheinmetall, a major player in the defense industry, has ambitious plans for the coming years. The company aims to increase its sales to 50 billion euros by 2030. This growth strategy is largely driven by the increasing demand for defense equipment in times of global uncertainty and conflict. CEO Armin Papperger is confident that the current geopolitical situation, particularly the Ukraine war, will further boost demand for defense technologies.
Rheinmetall’s plans not only include increasing sales, but also improving profitability. An operating margin of over 20 percent should be achieved by 2030. Sales growth of up to 30 percent is expected for the current year. These forecasts are based on a sharp increase in orders, both for direct supplies to Ukraine and for the armament of NATO countries.
According to Papperger, a peace agreement in Ukraine would not significantly affect Rheinmetall’s business. NATO countries, especially Germany, are planning significant investments in their defense capacities. Papperger is optimistic that the demand for defense equipment will continue beyond 2030, as NATO countries are unlikely to have fully achieved their defense goals by then.
Another strategic step by Rheinmetall is to focus on the defense business by selling the automotive supplier business. This realignment is expected to be completed by the middle of next year and underlines the company’s clear focus on the defense sector. At the same time, Rheinmetall plans to significantly expand ammunition production capacity by 2027 and 2030 to meet increasing demand.
