Microsoft is currently facing significant criticism after plans to further develop Windows as an “agentic operating system” were revealed. These plans, which aim to increase the integration of AI functions, were met with opposition from many users. They argue that there are more important issues in the operating system that urgently need to be addressed.

Windows boss Pavan Davaluri responded to the criticism and emphasized that the team takes the feedback seriously. In particular, the user experience, inconsistent dialog boxes and the needs of power users are the focus of the planned improvements. Davaluri admits that there is still a lot to do to make Windows more attractive to developers again.

Criticism of Microsoft’s focus on AI capabilities is not new. Many users feel unsettled by increasing automation and the associated restriction of user control. Ex-Microsoft employees like Dave Plummer have also expressed concerns that AI integration doesn’t always work smoothly and impacts the user experience.

Although Davaluri’s words offer hope for improvement, it remains to be seen whether Microsoft will actually take the necessary steps to resolve the existing problems. The limitations of the taskbar in Windows 11 in particular are a common annoyance that many users complain about. As long as such issues remain unresolved, Microsoft will continue to face criticism about the future direction of Windows.
