El Gobernador de Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, designó este domingo a José Antonio Cruz Medina como el nuevo titular de la SSP de la entidad.


Governor Ramírez Bedolla highlighted that the arrival of Cruz Medina represents a strategic change to consolidate the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice.

Mexico City, November 16 (SinEmabrgo).- The Governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedollaappointed this Sunday Jose Antonio Cruz Medina like new titular of the State Public Security Secretariat (SSP), with the purpose of strengthening the security strategy who presented the President Claudia Sheinbaum presented last November 4.

“Today we take a firm step in strengthening our security strategy: José Antonio Cruz Medina assumes ownership of the State Public Security Secretariat“, shared the leader state on your official X account.

The appointment of Cruz Medina has the intention of strengthening the approach to federal authorities and consolidating joint work with the Government of President Sheinbaum.

For Ramírez Bedolla, his arrival “represents a strategic change that promotes the consolidation of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, in full coordination with the Government of Mexico and with the security strategy headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.”

In a statement, the Government of Michoacán reported that Cruz Medina assumes the position after serving as Vice Attorney of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Michoacánwhere he headed areas of analysis, intelligence and police operations. He also had responsibilities in the National Guard (GN) and the defunct Federal Police.

“His incorporation into the SSP seeks to reinforce the articulated actions between federal and state institutions in combating crime and reducing violence,” the agency said.



Who is José Antonio Cruz Medina?

In October 2022, José Antonio Cruz Medina served as Undersecretary of Specialized Investigation (SIE) of the SSP itself, in addition to holding strategic positions as General Director of Technical and Tactical Operations of the Investigation Division of the defunct Federal Police. In that department he coordinated investigations against high-impact criminal groups and managed to capture various priority objectives.

He was also state coordinator in the Baja California Prosecutor’s Office. “For his performance, he has received Honorable Mention from the Federal Police and various certifications in surveillance and tactical intelligence,” the official statement states.

“His international preparation includes FBI Retraining in Mexico, combat training in urban guerrilla and hostile zones at the European Security Academy in Poland, as well as the Rural Operations Planning and Police Service Management course of the Colombian National Police.”

The administration of Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla stressed that, with the arrival of José Antonio Cruz Medina to the SSP, a stage of greater institutional articulation and operational strengthening is expected, aimed at consolidating the pacification of Michoacán under a comprehensive, professional and intergovernmental cooperation vision.
