Traditional medicine is a living legacy that protects the memory of people and their way of understanding health from the harmony between body, mind and spirit. To that end, the governor’s administration Julio Menchaca Salazar promoted a space dedicated to this knowledge within the Seventh National Meeting of Magical Townsheld in Pachuca.
Traditional medicine activities
Of the November 14 to 16thousands of visitors were able to witness first-hand ancestral ceremonies and practices from various corners of the country, offering an authentic approach to more than 23 activities.
Rituals, massage demonstrations, diagnoses, herbal workshops, energy cleansing techniques, discussions and even an editorial presentation were carried out, where traditional doctors from Morelos, Yucatán, Guerrero, Tlaxcala, Nayarit, Puebla, Guanajuato e Hidalgowho shared their methods and vision of healing.

Among them, the traditional Mayan doctor stood out Erika Pattern Fontsrepresentative of IzamalYucatan. With the strength of his heritage, he explained that those who visited the space were able to learn “the true Mayan medicine, the ancestral medicine of our grandparents.”
With more than 350 formulations for different conditions, from common ailments to complex diseases. The consultations, he stressed, were completely free.
Tzolkin, sacred calendar
Patron recalled that the ancestral method is based on the understanding of Tzolkina sacred calendar that defines the energy of each person: “We work from the energy body, the physical body through the plants and the skeletal system through the bone system, to achieve total balance,” he explained.

For her, the growing interest in traditional medicine is a sign of a cultural renaissance that young people and adults are taking up to prevent this knowledge from disappearing.
Another of the guardians of ancestral knowledge was Macario Matías Carrillotraditional doctor from Nayarit, known culturally as Sutaca. He narrated that he was born with the gift of healing and that his training was strengthened by visiting sacred precincts on four continents.
“The spirits sustain our energy. Diseases and also the power to heal us are born from them,” he noted. Their work is based on asking permission from these forces to purify and remove the discomfort that affects people.

“There is everything, we also see that some of us neglect the bad, but the spirit tells me that not that, we are going to teach the good, that they are available to whoever, they give them the power, you just have to know their alignments.”
The presence of these wise men and women not only enriched the tourist encounter, but also opened a bridge between generations, territories and worldviews.
In Pachuca, ancestral medicine found a setting where it could flourish again, remembering that the native peoples are still alive, firm and willing to share their knowledge with the world.
