The airport operator Fraport is optimistic despite a slight decline in passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport. While the expected 64 million passengers were not reached and the actual number is around 63 million, the company remains confident about its profit targets for 2025. This confidence is supported by a profitable summer and positive financial forecasts.

A notable increase in Fraport’s share price reflects investor confidence, boosted by the announcement of a possible dividend after the Corona crisis. The share rose by almost eleven percent, reaching values last recorded in 2018. Analysts praised the stronger-than-expected summer free cash flow, while the lowered passenger forecast was in line with market expectations.

Although sales stagnated in the third quarter, operating profit rose 23 percent, exceeding analysts’ expectations. These profits are largely due to an unscheduled premium refund for the company’s supplementary old-age insurance, which increased the operating result by 50 million euros. Overall, Fraport recorded a strong operating profit of 1.2 billion euros in the first nine months of the year.

Fraport plans to open a new passenger terminal in the south of Frankfurt Airport next April. Due to the upcoming redevelopment of Terminal 2, 57 airlines, including big names such as Air France-KLM and British Airways, will move to Terminal 3. The Lufthansa Group remains in Terminal 1, together with its Star Alliance partners. These developments underline Fraport’s commitment to growth and modernization, even if the recovery in passenger numbers in Frankfurt is slow.
