MADRID Nov. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) – The government of Iran has called this Monday “ridiculous“the accusations against Tehran about an alleged plan to assassinate the ambassador of Israel in Mexico, Einat Kranz-Neigerafter US officials denounced a foiled attack and the Israeli Government confirmed it.
“We consider these statements to be so ridiculous that there is no need to respond to them,” said the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign MinistryEsmael Baqaei, who has pointed to “similar” accusations in recent months for “damage relationships“between Iran and other countries, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.
“Why Mexico was chosen is interesting, given that public opinion in Mexico has expressed itself in protests against the (Israel) regime for its crimes in Gaza,” he maintained, before noting that the Mexican authorities themselves have said they do not provide information about this alleged plan.
Baqaei’s words have come after the Iranian Embassy in Mexico maintained on Friday that “the accusation about an alleged attempt by Iran to assassinate the Ambassador of the Israeli regime in Mexico is a media invention, a big lie, whose objective is to damage the friendly and historical relations between both countries.”
“We categorically reject it,” he noted on his account on the social network X, where he stressed that “this is not the first time they have tried to damage Iran’s relations with other countries through fake news.”
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior of Mexico indicated after the complaints about this alleged plan that “they do not have any report regarding an alleged attack against the Ambassador”, while showing “their willingness to maintain fluid communication with all accredited diplomatic representations” in the North American country.
The statement issued by Mexico comes after US officials consulted by the news portal Axios revealed that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had planned Kranz-Neiger’s assassination, but that Mexican security services had thwarted it this summer.
Subsequently, the Israeli Foreign Ministry had thanked the Mexican security forces “for dismantling a terrorist network directed by Iran that intended to attack the ambassador,” while a spokesperson for the US State Department said in statements to Europa Press that “Iran’s abhorrent international plans, directed against its own citizens, American and other countries, are incompatible with the behavior of a civilized state.”
