He Los Cabos International Film Festival comes to your edition 13 and receives Paola Desentis Via as its director and her commitment to linking art with the region refreshes this cinephile event in the state of Baja California.
Desentis explained in an interview with 24 HOURS that the change of direction does not mean a break, but rather an expansion of the cultural horizon. “My professional experience comes from working in creative industries for almost 16 years alongside the federal government”, he noted.
He recalled that in 2012 promoted the plataforma ONUSa project that linked cinema, music, animation and cultural entrepreneurship. From that logic, his arrival to the direction sought to integrate the richness of the territory with the new ways of making and watching cinema.
“The film program is maintained, that is not touched; but we recognize the digital transformation and the new ways of consuming, producing and distributing content,” he stated.

Beyond the Screen, premise of this edition of the Los Cabos International Film Festival
The premise of this edition will be Beyond the Screen (beyond the screen), an invitation for the screen to dialogue with the environment.
Desentis explained it in sensory and cultural terms: “When you arrive in Los Cabos you are in a paradisiacal place. The screen is still the protagonist, but there are also the whales, the sunsets, the people with whom you can do business, the dinners, the galas and the concerts.”
The proposal not only seeks to exhibit films, but also to cause the public to inhabit the landscape: “the sea of cortezthe desert, the marina, the open spaces that receive whale migrations every December. The festival intends for this natural territory to be part of the cinematographic experience,” Paulina added.
The programming will combine international cinema, national production and new visual languages. Therefore he reported that there will be 11 international films, 10 Mexican titles in competition Pulso del Esterooutdoor screenings, short films and a four-hour block of animation curated alongside the Cutout Fest.
“Mexico is one of the great creators of animators. We want it to be a space of convergence between animation and cinema,” he said. “The commitment to animation is linked to the expansion of the festival towards hybrid languages, digital art and immersive narratives.”
This year, the festival will pay tribute to the production designer and winner of the Oscar Eugenio Caballerowho will offer a masterclass on visual creation. There will also be a Emerging Filmmakers Panelspace for new voices that move between documentary, fiction and experimental proposals. Among the special functions stands out Depeche Mode: Mdocumentary directed by Fernando Frias.

Although the cinema continues in the center, the programming incorporates local gastronomy, music and activities in natural spaces.
Desentis pointed out that showing the cultural and economic chain of the territory is also part of the identity of the festival. “The fishermen are one of the most important economic actors in the area. They have an intrinsic responsibility with the conservation of the site,” he commented. The intention is for the public to understand the place they live in, beyond the tourist spectacle.
Some other titles at the Festival
The documentaries The Cloud in the Garden stand out, starring the singer Ed Maverick, and El Pulmo, a tribute to the fisherman and environmental defender Mario Castro.
The Festival will take place from December 10 to 14.
