FRANKFURT / LONDON (IT BOLTWISE) – Airport operator Fraport has revised its passenger forecast for 2023 slightly downwards, but still expects an increase in operating profit. Despite stagnating sales in the third quarter, the company was able to increase operating profit by 23 percent, which exceeded analysts’ expectations.

The airport operator Fraport has adjusted its expectations for passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport in 2023 downwards. The company had originally expected up to 64 million passengers, but is now expecting around 63 million passengers. This adjustment shows that the record number of 70.6 million passengers from 2019 remains out of reach.
Despite this adjustment, Fraport remains optimistic about increasing operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) in the coming year. In the best case scenario, consolidated profits should remain at the previous year’s level, which indicates stable financial development.
Fraport showed mixed results in the third quarter of the year. While sales stagnated at 1.35 billion euros, operating profit increased by 23 percent to 593 million euros. This development exceeded analysts’ expectations and shows the efficiency improvements that the company was able to implement.
Net profit for shareholders rose by almost a third to around 303 million euros. This positive development underlines Fraport’s ability to remain profitable despite challenging market conditions. The adjustment of the passenger forecast could indicate a cautious assessment of market developments as the company continues to work on optimizing its operational processes.
