The Technical Secretariat of the Public Market Service and the Public Works Directorate carried out two operations in the Polígono Itzimná 108 and Altabrisa neighborhoods, where four large stands that operated without permission were removed.
The stalls, which occupied approximately 120 square meters in total, were dedicated to the sale of food on an irregular basis, according to a bulletin.
In the first operation, carried out at Polígono Itzimná 108, three premises that were in an area that represented a risk to citizens were removed, since they remained under the electricity towers of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
Furthermore, according to neighborhood reports, they caused accumulation of garbage and presence of harmful fauna, which generated discontent among people.
One of the stores, dedicated to the sale of crushed foods and snacks, had modified the surface where it was located, placing a cement floor and damaging the green area. In addition, he installed a clandestine underground power line of more than 100 meters connected irregularly to the City Hall’s electrical system, where he stole energy. For this reason, the wiring was removed by specialized personnel.
During the operation, a man who claimed to be the owner arrived at the location and acted violently, so the support of elements of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) was requested to guarantee the safety of municipal personnel.
This recovery is relevant, since people who consumed food a few meters from electrical towers were protected, which implied a real danger to their physical integrity.
“The objective is to ensure that the development of Mérida advances without losing sight of order, security and legality,” said the technical secretary of the Public Markets Service, Alfonso Lozano Poveda.
These three dismantled stands were located in a corner located between streets 35 x 28D and 41, in an area with high traffic flow, where they caused road problems, since customers parked in a prohibited place to go down to shop.
Nine elements from the Technical Secretariat of the Public Markets Service and 10 from the Public Works Directorate participated in the operation.
Food trailer removed in Altabrisa
On the other hand, in an additional action carried out on 18th Street and 11th Street and Republic of Korea Avenue, in Altabrisa, a food trailer that did not have an operating permit from the City Council was removed. The premises had already been notified previously, but when it was ignored, it was removed.
Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada reiterated that the municipal administration will remain firm in its position of ordering the city without affecting coexistence or the rights of citizens.
“Mérida must grow, but it must do so in order, respecting our regulations. Anyone who wishes to sell on public roads must have a permit granted by the City Council. Public space belongs to everyone,” he stated.

In these operations, 119 street stalls of various types, 35 food trailers, 151 billboards and advertisements, 2 vehicles and 1 pipe were removed.
In this way, the Technical Secretariat of the Public Market Service carried out 34 High Impact Operations in the following points: Historic Center, Jardines del Norte Subdivision, La Florida Subdivision, Colonia Alemán, Colonia Gonzalo Guerrero, La Plancha, Subdivision Las Américas, Subdivision Paraíso Maya and Subdivision Santa Gertrudis Copó.
Similarly, operations were carried out in the Libertad neighborhood, Mexico neighborhood, Yucalpetén neighborhood, Felipe Carrillo Puerto neighborhood, Polígono Itzimná 108 neighborhood, Vista Alegre Norte neighborhood, Garcia Ginerés neighborhood, Santa Fe Norte neighborhood, Los Héroes neighborhood, San Carlos residential neighborhood, Pacabtún neighborhood, Paseos de Mérida neighborhood, Montebello neighborhood, non-polluting industries avenue, Antigua Carretera a Dzityá and San Antonio Hool Peripheral.
