The Mexican textile industry is going through a critical stage after ten consecutive quarters of decline in its production, with a sustained loss of jobs and lower productive capacity, but even so, the sector continues to be a pillar of formal employment, with more than 1.1 million workersaccording to the National Chamber of the Textile Industry (Canaintex).

During the National Convention of the Fiber-Textile-Confection-Footwear Chainheld in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Industrial leaders and authorities agreed that the recovery of the sector will depend on the strengthening of the domestic market, technological innovation and a fairer trade policy against unfair competition and irregular imports.
Rafael Zaga Sabapresident of the Canaintexemphasized that “Recovery will not come from outside, but from the sum of our own decisions”by encouraging the consumption of products made in Mexico and prioritizing the use of national cotton, threads and fabrics.
He stressed that the value of the industry lies not only in maquiladora, but in preserving the productive chain that sustains jobs and generates investment in the country.

Investment

At the convention, also organized by the National Association of the Chemical Industry (ANIQ) and the Chamber of Footwear of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG), the importance of integrating AI, new technologies and more efficient labor policies was highlighted.

The businessman emphasized that “the Mexican textile industry is one of the most integrated in the country, a productive chain that begins in the field and ends in the shop window, made with 100% Mexican hands and with the mission of clothing both Mexico and the world.”
