Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa met at the International Monetary Fund headquarters in Washington yesterday, Sunday, with the Fund’s Director, Kristalina Georgieva, in the presence of the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani. During the meeting, possible aspects of cooperation between Syria and the IMF were discussed to enhance the wheel of development and economic development in the country.

During the meeting, Al-Sharaa discussed possible areas of cooperation to support economic development in Syria.

Discussions focused on possible cooperation frameworks between Syria and the International Monetary Fund to promote economic growth and support economic reform.

Among the topics raised were reforming the Central Bank of Syria, providing reliable economic data, and increasing the state’s ability to generate revenues, according to Reuters news agency.

Georgieva confirmed the Fund’s readiness to provide support and assistance to Syria. She said in her post on the X platform that the discussions addressed the economic transformation that Syria needs, stressing the Fund’s keenness to provide assistance, including providing technical support to the main financial institutions in the Syrian state.

Al-Sharaa arrived in the United States yesterday, Sunday, on an official visit. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet at the White House later Monday.
