Frente frío 13

The new cold front number 13 and its associated arctic air mass will cause very heavy to intense rains in regions of the east and southeast of the national territory.

Mexico City, November 8 (However).- The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) of the Mexico City warned about a temperature drop this weekend due to the new cold front number 13.

According to the Secretariat’s notice, low temperatures will be felt from the night of Sunday, November 9, until Tuesday, November 11, when the thermometer will show minimum temperatures of between 2 and 6 degrees in high areas of the south and west, and 8 to 11 degrees in the valley area.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that the night and early hours of Sunday, the entry of the new cold front is expected over the north and northeast of Mexico, causing gusts of wind of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour (km/h) with possible formation of whirlwinds in areas of Chihuahua and Coahuila.

“Starting on Sunday, the new cold front number 13 and its associated arctic air mass will cause very heavy to intense rains in eastern and southeastern regions of the national territory, in addition to a strong to intense ‘North’ event on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, as well as in the Yucatan Peninsula. A notable drop in temperature is also expected in the north, northeast, east and center of the country,” he explained.

The climate will be caused by a trough at mid-levels of the atmosphere over the Yucatan Peninsula, a low pressure channel in the southeast of the country and the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.

“The mass of arctic air that will push the front will lead to a marked drop in temperatures starting early Sunday morning in the aforementioned regions,” the agency warned.
