IKEA recently announced that it will expand its smart home portfolio with 21 new products compatible with the Matter standard. These products will allow users to seamlessly connect their smart home devices with Apple’s HomeKit and the Apple Home app. The product range includes both new developments and updated versions of existing products that IKEA already had on offer.

Particularly noteworthy are the new smart light bulbs, which will be available in different shapes, sizes and light intensities. IKEA offers both white and colored spectrums, with all models being dimmable. A total of eleven light bulbs are available in sizes E27/26, E14/E12 and GU10. Decorative light bulbs made of clear glass will also be part of the range.

In addition to the light bulbs, IKEA will offer a range of sensors including motion, air quality, humidity and water sensors. The MYGGSPRAY sensor, for example, is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and can be used to control light. The MYGGBETT sensor detects whether doors or windows are open or closed, while the TIMMERFLOTTE sensor measures temperature and humidity.

Another highlight are the four new smart sockets and remote controls. The BILRESA remote control is equipped with a double button or a scroll wheel and allows you to control smart home products, such as dimming lights or activating scenes. The GRILLPLATS socket provides matter connectivity for common lamps or small household appliances.

IKEA’s new products use Matter-over-Thread, a wireless mesh protocol that runs on the 2.4 GHz band and enables direct communication between devices. This improves both the range and responsiveness of the devices. On the Apple platform, Apple TV, HomePod and HomePod mini serve as home hubs and Thread border routers.

These products are scheduled to launch in January next year, although pricing has not yet been announced. With this expansion, IKEA underlines its commitment to offering affordable and user-friendly smart home solutions that meet the latest technological standards.
