It will be until after June 2026once the participation of the Mexico City in it World Cup 2026when the comprehensive renovation work begins on the Line 3reported the general director of the Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro, Adrian Rubalcava.
In interview, Adrian Rubalcavahead of the Metro, announced that the maintenance and improvement works on the line that runs from Green Indians a Universidad will be carried out based on a model applied to the same transport that exists in Madrid, Spainand will begin until the second half of next year.
In October, the head of Government, Clara Brugadaannounced the renewal of this transport, with an initial investment of 850 million pesosbut did not specify when the work would take place.

“We thought that intervening on the Line prior to the World Cup would have a significant impact on us. We do not want the user to have a complicated experience, we are going to have a significant flow of people who are going to be new users of the Metro during this season, so Line 3 would be serving as a parallel alternative for those who use other lines,” Rubalcava said.
The head of the Metro reported that he already held the first meeting with the secretary of Mobility, Héctor Ulises García Nietoand with a group of experts to evaluate the approaches to partial cuts, for the execution of a master maintenance plan without affecting users.
They will try to ensure that the renewal of Metro Line 3 does not have a total closure
He explained that the intention is to carry out the work without a total closureto avoid major effects on the movement of users, so partial closures would be carried out with complementary services, such as RTPso that the service in the line is not permanently suspended.
“We would be cutting Line 3 in sections, that would allow us to have complementary services. The possibility of carrying out the work as was done in the Madrid Metro is being analyzed, where the service was practically not suspended; it would not happen as is happening with Line 1 Today, the intention is to explore the possibility that the Line remains open permanently and that we allow users to travel through the Metro despite the execution of the work,” he explained.

Asked about the initial section of the works, he explained that the intervention “would be carried out at the same time; a strategy will be carried out of starting from the ends (terminals) towards the interior and that will allow the tracks to be worked on and generate loops, that is, when the train runs and does not reach the end of the line, but there is a previous return that allows the train’s activity to be maintained without having to suspend the service.”
“Without a doubt this comes after the World Cup, but topographical studies are already being carried out to present a much clearer strategy,” concluded Rubalcava.
