Harfuch points out that there was protection for Manzo
After the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán this November 1 at a public event. The security cabinet reiterated that in May of this year, the mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán had an additional reinforcement of his security.

Yesterday, around 8:10 at night, at the conclusion of a public event in the center of Uruapan, a man dressed in white sweatshirt and black pantscarried out seven detonations with a firearm against the municipal president Carlos Manzo, for which he was transferred to a hospital where lost his life later.
At the scene, the aggressor was neutralized by security elements guarding the area. A 9 mm caliber handgun was seized, as well as the seven shell casings that correspond to the firearm.
In this attack, councilor Víctor Hugo de la Cruz was also injured, who is out of danger.
The deceased did not have identification, so the State Attorney General’s Office carries out the corresponding expert work to obtain his identity.
“From the Security Cabinet we closely and permanently support the development of investigations to clarify this crime and arrest all those responsible,” said Harfuch.

Security Cabinet aware of investigations
According to the first investigations, it was possible to identify that the seized weapon is related to two events of attacks between opposing criminal groups operating in the region.
By analyzing the videos of the event, as well as the C5 video surveillance cameras, the perpetrator’s accommodation and his movements at the scene of the events were located.
Interviews are also carried out with witnesses and videos from convenience stores and other businesses were requested in order to collect more data that contributes to the investigation.
The security cabinet does not rule out any line of investigation to clarify this cowardly act that took the life of the mayor.
“We express on behalf of the Security Cabinet and the Government of Mexico that we deeply regret this cowardly attack. On behalf of the Government of Mexico, we send our most sincere condolences to his family, his loved ones and the inhabitants of Uruapan, who today are experiencing a painful and unjust loss at the hands of organized crime,” Harfuch remarked.
