One of those allegedly involved in the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, was shot dead during the attack that occurred on the night of Saturday, November 1, while two other alleged murderers were arrested after the operation carried out by the authorities, reported the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Michoacán.
In a message on social networks, Attorney General Carlos Torres Piña explained that the attack occurred this Saturday night, shortly after the municipal president concluded a public event, within the framework of the Day of the Dead celebration.
“Today, November 1st, at the conclusion of a public event, the municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, was attacked with gunshots, a very unfortunate event where he unfortunately lost his life”said the official.

According to the prosecutor, the events occurred around 8:10 p.m. local time.
During the exchange of gunfire, one of the attackers was killed at the scene. “A 9 millimeter caliber short weapon was seized, as well as seven shell casings,” Torres Piña said.
When searching the attacker’s belongings, no identification was found, so authorities are working to determine his identity.
The mayor, who had been elected for the period 2024-2027, died at 8:50 p.m. at the Fray Juan de San Miguel hospital, where he was transferred after the attack.
Councilor Víctor Hugo was also injured in the incident, and is out of danger.

Torres Piña also confirmed the arrest of two more people allegedly linked to the homicide.
“Among the different investigations there are the arrest of two more people who probably participated in the events,” he reported.
The prosecutor assured that the Public Ministry, together with the areas of homicides and high-impact crimes, is already carrying out the corresponding investigations in Uruapan.
“We are going to be working in coordination with the different authorities as we are doing until now (…) to follow up on the investigations and clarify this unfortunate fact as soon as possible,” said Torres Piña.

After the crime, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, called an extraordinary meeting this Sunday morning of her security cabinet, headed by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, as well as the heads of the ministries of the Interior (Segob), Defense (Defensa), Navy (Semar) and the National Guard.
Carlos Manzo won the mayoralty of Uruapan in the 2024 electoral process, as an independent candidate and after having served as a federal deputy in the 2021-2024 triennium, under the acronym of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), the party of President Claudia Sheinbaum and from which he distanced himself to start his independent political campaign with the slogan “the one with the Hat.”
During 2025, Manzo raised his voice on several occasions to demand federal support from President Sheinbaum to confront organized crime operating in Uruapan. The mayor even announced rewards for municipal police officers who killed hitmen.
