The municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, was murdered this Saturday afternoon during an armed attack in the center of that city. The crime occurred during the inauguration of the Candle Festival, an event with great attendance in the region.
He is the seventh mayor to be assassinated during the current federal administration headed by Claudia Sheinbaum and which began on October 1, 2024.

The first was Alejandro Arcos Catalán, mayor of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, murdered and beheaded on October 6, 2024. The mayor had taken office just 6 days before, but was assassinated after threats.
The second crime occurred on October 15, 2024, when Roman Ruiz Bohórquez, municipal president of Candelaria Loxicha, Oaxaca, was attacked in his home with a knife.
On December 15 of the same year, Jesús Franco, mayor of Tancanhuitz, in San Luis Potosí, was shot dead by hitmen.
On May 15, 2025, the municipal president of Santiago Amoltepec, Oaxaca, Mario Hernández García, and two municipal police officers were murdered in an ambush occurred on the road that connects the municipal seat with the community of Piedra Liza.
The fifth crime against mayors occurred on June 2. It was about Isaías Rojas Ramírez, mayor of Metlatónoc, Guerrero, who died after being the victim of an alleged attempted assault on the Autopista del Sol.
Salvador Bastida García, mayor of Tacámbaro, Michoacán, and his escort were shot to death aboard their truck outside their home on June 6, increasing the crimes against mayors of that entity.

On June 15, Lilia Gema García Soto, municipal president of San Mateo Piñas, Oaxaca, was murdered inside the municipal palace of said town. During the attack, the representative of the Agua Caliente community, Eli García Ramírez, also died.
Two days later, on June 17, the municipal president of Tepalcatepec, Michoacán, Martha Laura Mendoza, was shot to death outside her home and her husband, Ulises Sánchez Ochoa, also died in the attack.
