Georg Büchner died at the age of 23, the age at which Orson Welles was when he performed the play “The Death of Danton”, which tells the story of Georges Danton, one of the leaders of the French Revolution. The text is considered a precursor to documentary theater, somewhere between romanticism and realism. Although today it is considered a fundamental text of German literature, the play was only performed for the first time in 1902, many years after the death of its author.

Johann Hürlimann (1793-1850)

In this episode, Rui Tavares traces the historical context of the play, making a parallel with the perception of time in history, particularly in times of revolution:‌ if the texture of time changes, what difference does it make to live it throughout a lifetime or concentrate all its essence in a few years of life, with superlative meaning?
