In a country that wasn’t Nicolás Maduro’s, the newspapers would only talk about war. In the last few hours, Donald Trump announced that the Pentagon is preparing to land attacks in Venezuela, but media in the South American country is not free. Every time they try to access content on social media about the President of the United States of America (USA) and his diplomatic problem with Caracas, Venezuelans are faced with a warning: they cannot view that publication.
“What we have to inform us are youtubers e tiktokersbut many had to leave the country, because they spoke badly about this Government. People like me inform themselves secretly and also pass on information.” Elisabete Fernández tells it: Portuguese-Venezuelan, 38 years old and lives in Caracas.
“I’m afraid, I’ve never experienced a war”, he admits to Expresso. He assures that among the Portuguese community, with which he frequently comes into contact, there are “many people in need”, in a “very painful situation”. Many, in need, “do not have a wheelchair, nor crutches, nor anything to eat”, laments Fernández, despite the efforts, which he recognizes, from several Portuguese foundations, the Portuguese embassy in Venezuela and the consulate. “These people have worked so hard in this country, many have not had children or have children in Portugal or Spain, or in other countries; they are in a bad situation and cannot continue here, with everything paralyzed and frozen”, he is indignant.
