The special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, considered that the proposal on the table for a humanitarian truce is a “rare opportunity” to end the fighting and protect civilian areas. On the 6th, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group in confrontation with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), had announced that agreed with the proposal of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad), a group made up of the United States of America (USA), Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Although the United Nations special envoy called on all parties involved in the war to “seize this opportunity to change the country’s trajectory”, Khartoum, controlled by the Sudanese Army, had already established conditions for any political dialogue with the RSF, including the withdrawal of the rebel group from occupied cities and the exclusion of the group from any future political role.
