The number of fatalities from the crash in Lisbon of a light vehicle, which caught fire after a collision, rose to six.
This morning, around 3:40 am, the vehicle caught fire on Avenida das Forças Armadas, close to the United States Embassy, towards Sete Rios.
The six fatal victims were young people aged between 18 and 20, according to SIC Notícias, which is at the scene. According to the television station, there were three women and three men in the vehicle – two of whom have already been identified.
The victims’ families are at the Institute of Legal Medicine and are receiving support.
Initially, the Lisbon Sapadores Firefighters had confirmed to Expresso the death of five people.
“The first information we had was that there were five charred victims inside the vehicle”, a source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) told the Lusa agency.
The PSP, firefighters, towing company and INEM went to the scene of the accident.
To Expresso, the firefighters did not confirm whether the vehicle was electric, as has been mentioned in other media, and say that it is “still premature” provide more information.
