PWe can breathe a sigh of relief, but only for a week. The clashes in the main municipalities were among the usual ones, giving the illusion of normality. The PS lost, but still holds its own as the second force that measures capillarity in the territory. But the key word is “still”. Despite the modest number of chambers, behind the PCP and even the CDS, Chega has 137 councilors. They do not impose policies or distribute places and money, but they will have responsibilities, moving from the normalization of discourse to that of practice. The results around the capital are clear in a dynamic that confirms the conquest of the most popular vote, coming from socialists in the legislative and communists in the local elections (they could even be the same voters). In Almada, Barreiro or Moita, Chega is close, sometimes ahead, sometimes behind, of the CDU. In others, they are far ahead, such as Montijo, Amadora, Odivelas or Vila Franca. In many cases it comes in second place, in others it even smells like victory. In Sesimbra and Palmela he does not win by 200 votes. The PCP falls in all these municipalities, in some cases plummeting. In the most popular parishes, the pattern is evident: Chega is growing in the popular left-wing electorate.
