Paolo Bicchieri, writer and nephew of Mark Laneganwho died in February 2022, wrote an article in the newspaper “The Irish Times” on the mystery surrounding his uncle’s death.
Explaining that the family – namely his mother, Mark Lanegan’s sister – never found concrete answers to their concerns, Paolo Bicchieri says that went to Ireland, where his uncle had lived for some timeto try to find out more.

According to Paolo Bicchieri, his uncle and his wife moved to Ireland “partly due to the pandemic, partly due to politics. Plus, they had a friend who rented them a house in Killarney – and my uncle knew he had a lot of fans in Ireland.”

Near-death experience inspired Mark Lanegan writing a book, “Devil in a Coma”. However, the damage the disease caused to his lungs took a toll.
“One morning, went down the stairs to get something and fell. In the past, his colossal stature would have protected him from the impact”, writes his nephew.
According to the coroner’s findings, Mark Lanegan was victim of complications from “long Covid” and “misfortune” having fallen at home.
In London, before his uncle’s tribute concert in 2024, Paolo Bicchieri spoke to fans of the Queens of the Stone Age collaborator, who told him that, shortly before his death, Mark Lanegan would be preparing a tour.
