The Attorney General of the Republic decided to make another “clarification” related to Operation Influencer. After the “Saturday” magazine having published the summaries of the wiretaps in which António Costa was accidentally caught, Amadeu Guerra’s office notes that “the process where the telephone taps were carried out is subject to external, but not internal, judicial secrecy.”
Therefore, “the defendants who requested it have accessed it several times, since July 2024, with some of them requesting and obtaining a full digital copy of the process (which includes the fortnightly reports of telephone tapping, but not the recordings of the same)”. More: “No journalist has ever had access to the files at DCIAP.”
After suggesting that it was someone linked to the defendants’ defense who passed the information to “Sábado”, the PGR emphasizes that “criminal involvement will be made due to the content reported today”, as this will involve a crime of disobedience.
The defense of António Costa, who is not a defendant nor was under wiretapping, had already demanded clarifications to the MP: “Sand the objective, as the Public Prosecutor’s Office alleged, was to guarantee that such interceptions, which had nothing relevant to the facts, could be used by the defense, being stored in the DCIAP safe, why are they already public knowledge?”
