Carolina Deslandes accompanied the announcement of a show at Meo Arena, in Lisbon, for March 2027, with a new song, ‘Feia’ recorded live in the center of the concert hall.
In the lyrics of ‘Feia’, the singer-songwriter rebels against rise of the far right and the setback of women’s rights.
“The extreme right that I assume/ is to have a fist in your right hand/ that carries a pen/ Voice armed with lead bullet/ shot followed by smoke/ I am a woman and I am a poet/ They want to go back in time, plant fear inside/ They shout God, country and family/ And the husband who brings the support or another gray eye, says he went against the furniture”, sings Carolina Deslandes.
Later, he continues in his criticism: “You hate women and when you kill women you want to cry and light candles/ But half the world are women and the other half is made up of their children/ A country without a home or comfort wants to talk about abortion, they want to take away our books/ I am a daughter of April, I came out of the sewer, I was born ready for confrontation and they scream in my ears”.
On Instagram, Carolina Deslandes contextualized the lyrics of ‘Feia’ this Tuesday, November 25th: “NIt’s not about me, but it’s also about me. It’s about the crazy ones, the ugly ones, the ones who don’t confirm themselves and aren’t intimidated. Today is the day to eliminate violence against women and this is my cry. Or ours. I like to believe it’s ours.”
Carolina Deslandes, ‘Ugly’
Oh Mother, I was born in a country
I was born in a country that hates me
They say: “Let the crazy person pass”
They say: “Let the ugly pass”
Oh Mother, I was born in a country
I was born in a country that hates me
They say: “Let the crazy person pass”
They say: “Let the ugly pass”
The extreme right that I assume is to have a fist in your right hand that carries a pen
Voice armed with lead bullet, shot followed by smoke, I’m a woman and I’m a poet
They want to go back in time, plant fear inside, shout “God, Country and Family”
And a husband who brings support or another gray eye says he went against the furniture
Oh Mother, I was born in a country
I was born in a country that hates me
They say: “Let the crazy person pass”
They say: “Let the ugly pass”
Oh Mother, I was born in a country
I was born in a country that hates me
They say: “Let the crazy person pass”
They say: “Let the ugly pass”
You hate women and when you kill women you want to cry and light candles
But half the world are women and the other half the world is made up of their children
A country without homes or comforts, they want to talk about abortion, they want to take away our books
I am the daughter of April, I came out of the sewer, I was born ready for confrontation and they scream in my ears
Oh Mother, I was born in a country
I was born in a country that hates me
They say: “Let the crazy person pass”
They say: “Let the ugly pass”
Oh Mother, I was born in a country
I was born in a country that hates me
They say: “Let the crazy person pass”
They say: “Let the ugly pass”
O Mother, I was born
O Mother, I was born
O Mother, I was born
In a country
O Mother, I was born
O Mother, I was born
O Mother, I was born
Let the ugly go
