O Louvre Museum announced this Friday the new price list for 2026. For anyone visiting from countries such as the United Kingdom, United States or China, entry will be €32 – representing a 45% increase compared to the current price, explains the “Euro News”.
The increase is aimed at non-European citizens and will come into force from the January 14, 2026.
The decision was approved on Thursday by the museum’s board of directors and mainly affects North Americans — the largest group of foreign visitors — and Chinese touristswhich rank third, according to the 2024 activity report.
The measure provoked immediate criticism from unions. THE CFDT federation (French Democratic Confederation of Labor) accuses the museum of give up the one-price principle for all nationalities and warns that the new model could be interpreted as “discrimination”.
The differentiated pricing policy should, however, extend to other French cultural facilities. The Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, stated that, in 2026, all national cultural operators will be subject to a similar tariff structure.
The Palace of Versailles has already admitted that it is considering increasing the individual ticket by three euros for visitors from outside the European Economic Areaalthough the proposal still awaits approval from the respective board of directors.
The Louvre welcomed 8.7 million people last year, 69% from abroad. The objective of the price rise is to generate up to 20 million euros annually to respond to “structural problems” and finance renovation workat a time when the museum was still recovers from assault which, last month, made pieces that represent a loss of 90 million euros.
