O Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued this Friday several yellow warnings (issued when there is a risk for certain activities depending on weather conditions) due to the forecast of intense rain and sea disturbancesmainly affecting the coast and the north of the country.
Viseu, Leiria and Coimbra will be under warning between 09:00 and 15:00, while Viana do Castelo and Braga maintain the alert until 09:00. In Porto and Aveiro, the warning lasts until noon, due to the forecast of intense rain, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms.
From 12pm on Saturday and until midnight on Sunday, the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will also be under yellow warning due to sea unrest, with waves from the northwest that could reach between four and four and a half meters.
For this Friday, the IPMA predicts generally very cloudy skies, rain evolving into showers — more intense on the coast north of Cabo Carvoeiro —, stronger wind in the highlands and coastal strip, and a slight rise in temperatures.
As minimums will vary between 6 °C in Guarda and 14 °C in Lisbon, Setúbal and Aveiro, while highs will fluctuate between 10 °C in Guarda and 22 °C in Faro.
Next week will have more rain
Adverse weather conditions should stay in the next few dayswith the approach of a new depression that could worsen the weather and whose effects could already be felt from the end of Sunday.
The meteorologist Alexandra Fonsecafrom IPMA, explained to Expresso that the country will be able to count on “heavy precipitation and a lot of associated wind”a phenomenon that, underlines, “It’s common in November.” It will be more intense “in the second half of the weekpossibly”, he stated.
