Dand from January to June this year, around a third (33%) of the 1,235 chief executive officers (CEOs) of American companies who left their positions were replaced by interim managers. The data comes from the executive recruitment company Challenger, Gray & Christmas and compares to 9% recorded in that country in the first six months of last year. They reflect the growing trend in the use of “temporary” leaders by companies. In most cases, those who took the helm were experienced managers, recruited from outside the organization, who accepted the mission of keeping it running until a permanent leader is appointed. Your mission could last six months, a year or more. Regardless of how long they stay, they identify opportunities for improvement, define a plan, execute it and move on to the next mission.
