A Republican National Guard (GNR) registered since January and until October 15th 6616 accidents involving motorcycles, which resulted in 98 dead, 547 seriously injured and 4822 slightly injuredthe Guard reported today.
The data appears in a note from GNR to mark the start today of operation “Moto V”, which aims to monitor and patrol and ensure the safety of the event MotoGP Portugalwhich runs until Sunday at Algarve International Circuitin Portimão.
In the note, the Guard recalls that in 2024 there were 6387 accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, resulting in 103 fatalities, 583 serious injuries and 4,551 minor injuries.
Following MotoGP Portugal, it is planned a significant increase in the volume of motorcycle traffic on the main access roads to the Algarverefers to GNR in the note.
The operation will have a special impact on the districts of Aveiro, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal and Faro.
They will also be closed between 2pm and 5pm from Sunday to main connection to the Autódromo towards the south, and Highway 22 towards Spain-Portugal between the nodes of Alvor and Mexilhoeira.
