Portuguese Alexandre Fartobetter known as Vhils, is one of the artists participating in fifth edition of the art exhibition Forever is Now (Eternal is Now), opened this Tuesday. in Egypt.
Vhils took the work to the country “Gates of Cairo, 2025”one of several installations presented, alongside internationally recognized artists, such as the Italian Michelangelo Pistoletto, the French-Beninese King Houndekpinkou or the South Korean Jongkyu Park. The piece is on display at the foot of the Pyramids of Giza, 18 kilometers from the capital of Egypt.
According to the author, “‘Doors of Cairo’ is, above all, a reflection on the connection (…) Each door carries its own story: layers of paint, scratches, fingerprints and repairs, silent witnesses of the lives they once framed.” The description accompanies the photograph of the work that the painter and graffiti artist shared on the social network Instagram.
Vhils is the first Portuguese artist invited to participate in Forever is Nowa challenge that he sees “as both an honor and a truly special moment”, he assures in the same publication.
The annual exhibition aims to explore what, “in a world in constant transformation”, will remain a personal, cultural and identity legacy – such as the Pyramids of Giza, one of the seven wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The exhibition is curated by Egyptian Arta company founded by French-Egyptian curator Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, “with the aim of supporting Egyptian arts and cultural initiatives.” – can be read on the company’s website, and will be open until December 6th.
