The week that begins with the first day of December – a national holiday that marks the day of the Restoration of Independence – brings good news for Portuguese drivers. THE starting next Monday, diesel will be seven cents cheaper per liter (after several weeks of rising) and gasoline will have a price drop of 3.5 centsreveals the Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP), citing sources in the sector.
According to data from the General Directorate of Energy and Geology (DGEG), published this Thursday, the average price of a liter of diesel in Portugal cost 1.635 euros, while that of gasoline was worth 1.72 euros.
If the predictions for next week are confirmed, the average price of simple diesel will be set at 1,565 euros and that of simple 95 gasoline will drop to 1,685 euros.
For its part, the daily bulletin from the National Entity for the Energy Sector (ENSE) reports this Friday on a selling price to the public (obtained based on gantry prices announced by suppliers) of 1,766 euros per liter in gasoline and 1,692 euros per liter not diesel.
The portal price is the average price reported by operators of gas stations sold to the public at the Balcão Único da Energia, corresponding to the basic commercial offer, free from discounts, fleet cards and others.
These prices are both above the reference value calculated by ENSE for gasoline and diesel: 1,441 euros per liter and 1,396 euros per liter, respectively. Of these values, the largest portions relate to ISP, VAT and other taxes.
According to the ACP, the estimates presented are based on the assumption of maintenance of the extraordinary tax reduction measures applied by the Government to mitigate the increase in prices. Measures in force include reducing ISP and offsetting additional VAT revenue.
These forecasts also take into account the evolution of oil and refined product prices. In this Friday’s session, the price of a barrel of Brent oil – which serves as a reference for Europe – opened at 62.83 dollars, according to ENSE.
