The intense rains and Floods last week in central Vietnam caused 35 deathsaccording to a new report released today by authorities, which report the disappearance of five people. As 35 deaths were recorded in the provinces of Hué, Da Nang, Lam Dong and Quang Tri, reported the Vietnamese Disaster and Dike Management Authority (VDDMA).
Vietnam’s central coastal provinces have been affected by heavy rains since last week, with record rainfall that reached up to 1.7 meters in 24 hours in the city of Hué.
At this stage, more than 16,500 houses are flooded in the countryaccording to the VDDMA report.
Last week, residents struggled to navigate the waist-deep flooded streets of Hoi An’s old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the ground floors of many shops in the city’s historic center were submerged.
Several kilometers of roads were damaged or blocked by floods and landslides, more than 5,000 hectares of crops were destroyed and more than 16,000 cattle were killed, the Vietnamese Ministry of the Environment reported last Thursday.
