Charli XCX released a new song, ‘House’, in partnership with ex-Velvet Underground John Cale.

The theme, which will be part of the soundtrack of the new film adaptation of “The Mount of Gales”, a novel by Emily Brontë, shows a Charli XCX surprisingly close to the gothic universe, in a sound that crosses electronics and noise, with Cale taking care of the narrative part.

On social media, Charli XCX explained why she accepted the invitation to participate in this new project: “After having really immersed myself in my previous album [”Brat”, de 2024]I was very excited to be able to follow a completely different, opposite path”, she wrote. “When I think of ‘The Mount of Gales’, I think of many things: of passion, of pain, of England; in the moors, in the mud and in the cold; in determination and courage.”

The invitation to John Cale was born after Charli “I had that expression in my head. I wrote it down in the notes on my cell phone, and from time to time I would reread it and think about what he meant.”

“I sent him some songs, and we started talking specifically about ‘House’. We talked about adding a poem to it. He recorded something and sent it to me. And it brought me to tears.”

The film, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the lead roles, will hit theaters in February 2026.
