The couple were heading to Faro, after realizing that the Gynecology and Obstetrics service at the Portimão Hospital it was closed. During the trip, the pregnant woman – at 40 weeks – went into labor, causing her husband to stop in the service area.
An off-duty firefighter who was at the scene provided first care until emergency teams arrived.
Mother and baby were then transported to the Faro ULSboth in good health. The newborn, Alice, weighed more than three kilos.
