MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— With the motto “We are what moves us”he Yucatan Scenic Festival It reaches its fifteenth edition in 2025, celebrating three decades of movement, creation and encounter. Of the November 8 to 15, Merida will be adorned with the best of the contemporary dance in a program that brings together artists from Mexico, the United States, Italy, Brazil, Spain and Belgium, with presentations, workshops, master classes and free activities for all audiences.
During the press conference, the director and founder of the festival, Lourdes Lunashared the excitement of reaching this symbolic figure after years of uninterrupted work. “These are fifteen years that seem easy, but there is a lot of effort behind them. The festival was born because Yucatán needed a platform to see contemporary creations from other parts of the world. Today we have a loyal audience and an artistic community that awaits each edition with enthusiasm,” he expressed.
Festival history
The presentation also included the participation of Patricia Martin Bricenoholder of the Secretary of Culture and Arts (Sedeculta), who recognized the trajectory of the festival and its role as an independent space and cultural resistance. “Sustaining a project like this for so long is admirable. Yucatán Escénica has grown from the conviction and passion of its creators, and that makes it a national benchmark,” he stated.
Presentation of the company Atelier du Geste
For its part, Natalia Pelayohead of Liaison Department of the Yucatan University of the Arts (UNAY), highlighted the collaboration with the festival, which will begin its programming precisely in the University Black Boxwith the presentation of the Brazilian company Gesture Workshop. The group will also offer an artistic stay and master classes for students of contemporary and classical dancestrengthening the ties between artists and the educational community.
22 activities in different locations
This year, Yucatán Escénica will present 22 activities distributed in different venues such as the UNAY, the Armando Manzanero Theater, the Dance Conservatory and the EfímeroArte en Tránsito space. Furthermore, within the framework of the Cultural Autumnthe work will be presented “Dance on the bank of a deaf river” of the company Flood Dancedirected by Lourdes Luna herself.
“Outdoors” aspect
As a novelty, the festival incorporates the slope “Outdoors”which will open the nights with a festive atmosphere in the Efímero patio. There will be DJ presentations, contemporary circus performances and dance with fire, as well as a light installation by the artist.
