“There is a 2 million deficit of spaces for students in public universities and continues to grow because the conditions of the budgets assigned to them are increasingly precarious,” he stressed when inaugurating the XXX Ordinary General Assembly of the National Confederation of University Workers, which is held in Merida.
For her part, Bertha Rodríguez Sámano, general secretary of the National Association of Associations and Unions of University Academic Staff, added that the outlook for public universities is very complicated, with a totally insufficient budget.
“The universities complied with accepting an increase in student enrollment, but the Government did not, as it only authorized a 4 percent increase in the salary cap,” he indicated.

He warned that of the 300 thousand workers at public universities in Mexico, at least 52 thousand earn the minimum wage.

In the case of Autonomous University of Yucatan (Uady), the general secretary of AUTAMUADY, Erick Gabriel Gómez Tutsaid that 761 workers active administrative and manual they earn less than the minimum wage.
“Our collective contract expires on January 15, 2026 and we are requesting a 15 percent salary increase next year,” he said.
