In this regard, Maduro alluded to polls that indicate that “82 percent of Venezuelans say they are willing to defend their sacred homeland with weapons in hand.”
“If history demanded that we declare ourselves a republic in arms, again history would see us rise with the sacred banner [de los héroes de la independencia Francisco] of Miranda, of [Simón] Bolívar […] and we would have only one destiny: the victory of our dignity, the victory of our history,” the president added.
