The president of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Saturday, through a message published on its social network Truth, that airlines and pilots must take into account that the Venezuelan airspace “it will remain closed in its entirety.”

“To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and human traffickers: we ask you to consider that the airspace over Venezuela and its surroundings will remain completely closed. Thank you for your attention! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”says the president’s message, which does not offer details about the reasons for the closure at a time of high tension between both countries.

The message was spread after the newspaper The New York Times reported on an alleged telephone conversation between Trump and the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in order to explore a possible meeting. Neither side has officially confirmed or denied the call.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, a critic of the Maduro Government, would have participated in the conversation, in which no specific plans were finally agreed upon for an eventual meeting between both leaders.

Trump would act in Venezuelan territory

The information comes a day after Trump warned that his Armed Forces will act “very soon” in Venezuelan territory against alleged “drug traffickers,” while maintaining the naval deployment in the Caribbean.

On November 21, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) called for “extreme caution” when fly over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean facing a “potentially dangerous situation” in the area.

The warning is given in the context of the recent US bombings against ships in the Caribbean, which have left several dead and are carried out under the argument – not proven – of combating drug trafficking, an activity in which they involve Venezuelan authorities and, in particular, Maduro.
