In its last game of 2025, the Mexican National Team disappointed again and fell 2-1 against Paraguay, to close the year with a streak of six games without a win.
Now at the Alamodome in Texas, the 28,076 fans reproached with boos the actions of Javier Aguirre’s team, which still shows no improvement in its performance.
The first half had more arguments and fouls than shots on goal, as the players from both teams entered each ball dispute strongly.
The fans in San Antonio got excited for the first time in the 20th minute, when Gilberto Mora took a free kick near the area, charged to the left, but goalkeeper Orlando Gill rejected it well.
Edson Álvarez, 10 minutes later, finished inside the area after a corner kick, but “Machín” rushed in, shot softly and the ball hit the Paraguayan goalkeeper’s left post.
With constant fouls and a rain of yellow cards, including one for “Vasco”, the first period ended with the Aztec team dominating the pace of the game.
For the second half, a cross from the right reached Antonio Sanabria, who swept in to push the ball into the back after a collision with Luis Malagón, which was reviewed in the VAR, but the American center back José Dickerson ruled it okay.
The Mexican response came immediately and at 52′ Orbelín Pineda escaped from the right, entered the area and after being knocked down, the central defender scored a penalty, which Raúl Jiménez took in his own style, with a couple of jumps and a soft touch to deceive the goalkeeper and tie the duel.
In the best moment of the match, the Mexican joy was frustrated almost immediately because at 56′ a shot by Julio Enciso was rejected by Malagón, but on the rebound, Enciso crossed and Damián Bobadilla headed home to put the South Americans ahead again.
From then on, the only clear shot for Mexico was a cross from Roberto Alvarado that Jiménez headed home, but over the goal in the 64th minute.
The frustration of the Mexican public was so great that after homophobic shouting on repeated occasions, in the 83rd minute the match was suspended momentarily.
Mexico will no longer have friendlies until next year, with a FIFA Date that will include two duels prior to the 2026 World Cup.
