PROGRESO.— During the morning of yesterday, Friday, an operation was carried out in the streets of the port to remove vehicles that are damaging the roads.

On this specific occasion the operation was carried out on 98th Street between 31st and 33rd, in the west of the city.

The measure was a joint action between the Municipal Police and the Transportation and Roads Directorate of this city, with the support of private cranes that were in charge of removing the units.

According to what was learned, the operation began in the early morning and concluded around 9 in the morning.

The vehicles that were removed were those that remained in the vicinity of a well-known mechanical workshop in the area, whose manager has been parking numerous units on the street for several years.

On the street there were even up to three rows of vehicles that were purchased for deboning or customers taking their cars for repair.

After several citizen complaints from neighbors dissatisfied with this situation, who alleged that the space to circulate on that road was limited by the number of vehicles, and after several notices to remove the units, yesterday the municipal authority took action and freed the road with the use of cranes.

At least twenty vehicles were loaded and transferred to the municipal corralón, leaving the road free for circulation and even enabling a parking space for both residents of the area and for people who come to shop in nearby establishments, or those who go to the volleyball court located there.

Despite this operation, there are still other vehicles on site that had already been given their respective notices that they would be removed in a matter of hours.

As you may remember, a little over a year ago a vacant lot located on that same street caught fire, where several vehicles, which had been parked in that space by the owner of the workshop, were damaged.— Abraham Ismael Raz Herrera

Notified in advance

The port of Progreso was notified in advance of the removal of vehicles.

In recent scrap metal removal operations, Progreso authorities have implemented a notice period for owners and tenants. Three days after the notifications, if the units continue without being removed, they are lifted with cranes and the corresponding violations are applied.

Reason for withdrawal

In addition to being a traffic problem due to obstruction, abandoned vehicles are considered a source of infection and a safety hazard, which justifies municipal intervention to free streets and avenues.
