MEXICO CITY.- For the rescue of a man who was taken hostage in a gymin the Mayor Gustavo A. Maderolast July 1st, the Commander José Antonio Ríos Martínez was recognized, along with others 96 elements of the Investigative Police (PDI)on the occasion of the corporation’s 106th anniversary.
“Each call is a strategy and the objective is to achieve the release of the victim,” said Ríos Martínez.
The PDI commander achieved the gym instructor rescue, and although he was shot twice, he stressed that the most important thing was to save a life.
“I am very happy that we are recognized, because all the other colleagues, well, have realized that for that effort you give, that you give 100 without expecting anything in return, there is a reward, right? And the reward, well, it is a medal, and of course, the reward is the release of the victim alive, saving a life, of course.”
The celebration for the 106 years of the Investigative Police was headed by the Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City (FGJ), Bertha Alcalde Lujánwho recognized the operational value, the investigative action and the trajectory of the elements of the institution.
“First of all, we celebrate the operational value that has characterized this police force since its origins, that value that is clearly expressed today in the case of Israel Alemán Badillo, who confronted an armed kidnapper, repelled the attack and managed to arrest four members of a criminal group,” the Prosecutor mentioned as an example.
Mayor Luján spoke of the implementation of the Accusatory Penal System in Mexico City as one of the most profound transformations of the PDI. He also reported that this year they have incorporated 300 new researchers and 100 new vehicles were acquired for operations.
For his part, the director of the PDI, Alfonso Mendoza Ramírez, reported that so far this year the 4 thousand 70 detectives completed 6 thousand 200 arrest warrantswhich means an increase of 16% compared to 2024. Likewise, they have stopped 1,087 priority objectives related to high impact crimeswhich represents an increase of 45%; and 1,092 searches have been carried out, equivalent to 38% more, he assured.
In addition, during 2025, 16 leaders of criminal organizations have been arrested, actions for which coordinators, prosecutors, public ministries and experts were recognized.
