DURANGO.- The Durango Congress unanimously approved the reforms to the State Penal Code, known as “Nicole Law”which They prohibit cosmetic surgeries on minors y They sanction the usurpation of functions in these procedures.
The Justice Commission presented the opinion that establishes co-responsibility of both parents in promoting awareness about the risks of these procedures; as well as the hospital centers where they are carried out.
Why was “Nicole Law” born?
The “Nicole Law” takes the name of Paloma Nicole Arellano, a 14-year-old teenager who died after undergoing cosmetic surgery without her father’s consent.
At the moment Paloma Nicole’s mother and stepfatherwho was also the surgeon, They are detained for the crimes of omission of careand in the case of the mother, also for the crime of forgery of use of a false document and the crime of usurpation of profession.
“This ruling fully coincides with Morena’s vision, a vision that places human dignity at the center of all decisions, that protects those who cannot defend themselves and that understands that social justice begins with the most basic, guaranteeing the life, integrity and safety of our girls and boys,” highlighted the deputy. He considered that there is no political agenda more important than safeguarding life, and that no ideology can be above the protection of children, since this law represents a clear and necessary “never again.”

“We are convinced that its approval strengthens justice, citizen trust and the commitment of this Congress to the defense of fundamental rights and legality,” she said.
