The parents of the 43 Ayotzinapa normal students reiterated that Alejandro Gertz Manero “never did absolutely anything” for the case during his tenure as head of the FGR.
Mexico City, November 28 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum committed on Thursday to analyze the return of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) to resume the Ayotzinapa case, as reported by the mothers and fathers of the 43 students missing from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal Schoolfor more than 11 years.
Isidro Vicario, legal representative of the parents of the young people, explained, after the sixth meeting with the President, which lasted nearly two hours, that the investigators Carlos Beristain y Angela Buitrago They could resume the case after contacting the Undersecretary of Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior, Arturo Medina, at the instruction of Sheinbaum.
“What the fathers and mothers have valued is that, at least it is a gesture, a sign that we can move forward… We consider that this is what is redeemable about the meeting,” he commented.
Mario González, father of normalist César Manuel, agreed that the most relevant thing about the meeting with the president is that the experts will be sought “as soon as possible” to resume their activities, if both are available.
“The most significant thing about the meeting is that they are already going to speak with the experts to invite them to this new stage of investigations, Carlos (Beristain) and Ángela (Buitrago),” declared Mario González.
For his part, Emilio Navarrete, father of the student José Ángel, pointed out that the only progress that was made known at the meeting was the arrests of two municipal police officers – from Iguala and Huitzuco – related to the disappearance. In this sense, he considered that the investigations are at a stalemate.
“Basically it is like at a stalemate, it is not moving forward, even if they say that there are some arrests, it is not enough when they are low-profile people, so we know that the barrier is in the Sedena…”, he pointed out as he left the National Palace.
Regarding the resignation of Alejandro Gertz Manero as head of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Navarrete stated that the parents of the normalistas “don’t care,” since the official did nothing regarding the Ayotzinapa case.
“We don’t care that he is gone, because for us he never did anything at all, I just have a very unpleasant memory. Well, he said as a prosecutor at that time, that this could be resolved quickly, because the events happened almost in broad daylight, but it just stayed there […] How long did it take and the man did nothing… How is it possible to have an Attorney General there, what is he doing, right? If it is not solving anything,” he declared.
