The Russian President stated that “there are no interception methods” and that this underwater drone “has no equal in the world.”
MADRID, Oct. 29 (EUROPA PRESS).- The President of Russia, Vladimir Putinannounced this Wednesday that Moscow successfully tested the supertorpedo “Poseidon”fired from a submarine and with the capacity to carry nuclear warheads, before highlighting that this weapon has no equivalent in other countries in the world.
“Yesterday we carried out another test with a promising system: the unmanned underwater vehicle ‘Poseidon’“, he noted. “For the first time, we were successful not only in launching it from a submarine using its propellant, but also in activating its nuclear reserve, which powered the vehicle for a certain period of time,” he added, according to the Russian news agency. Interfax.
The existence of “Poseidon” was announced by Putin himself in March 2018 and is a projectile about 24 meters long with the capacity to carry a nuclear warhead and operate partly as an “underwater drone.” Although in some media it was described as the “Weapon of the Apocalypse”, various experts argued that the same effect could be achieved with an intercontinental missile like those that have been in operation since the 1960s.

On the other hand, the President assured that the “Poseidon”, whose capabilities could include poisoning large areas of water with radiation, significantly improves the “Sarmat” – a super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile known as “Satan II” – in terms of power. “In fact, the speed and depth of travel of this unmanned underwater device have no equal in the world,” he said.
“It is unlikely that [un arma similar] be developed soon. “There are no interception methods,” said Putin, who stressed that the test is “a great success.” “Apart from all the advantages that I mentioned about the ‘Burevestnik’, it is also extremely small. “It is 100 times smaller than a nuclear submarine reactor,” he explained.
“However, the power of the ‘Poseidon’ significantly exceeds our most advanced intercontinental missile, the ‘Sarmat.’
In response to this test, the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, criticized these actions and stressed that his Russian counterpart should work to end the war in Ukraine, unleashed in February 2022, instead of proceeding with this type of maneuvers. “They should achieve an end to the war, a war that should have lasted a week and is now close to entering a fourth year. That is what they should do, instead of missile tests,” he concluded.
For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said that Trump’s reaction “represents the point of view of the American Head of State, which is important,” although he insisted that “Russia works consistently to guarantee its own security.” “Ensuring the security of our country is a vital issue, especially given the bellicose attitude that we see mainly among Europeans,” he explained in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, unleashed in February 2022.
