The Water Commission noted that, at the moment, the exact origin of the floating hydrocarbon detected in the Cazones River is unknown, but Pemex’s support has already been requested to address the emergency.
Mexico City, November 29 (However).- Mexican Petroleum (Pemex) reported yesterday that it maintains a permanent operation of surveillance and cleaning in the northern area of Veracruzafter the effects caused by the heavy rains from last month and a new one hydrocarbon spill detected in the last hours the Cazones Riverwhich forced the suspension of the water supply in Rica’s picture.
The enterprise reported that it carries out cleaning work on the banks of the Cazones Riverand which reinforced the placement of barriers and oleophilic cords at the intake of the Veracruz State Water Commission (CAEV) in Poza Rica. These actions seek to contain the hydrocarbon iridescence and prevent it from reaching the main channel of the river.
State authorities confirmed that the presence of oil in the water forced pumping to stop from the Poza Rica Water System intake during the morning of November 28.
“At 06:00 today, the pumping operation from the intake was suspended again due to the presence of oil in the Cazones River in front of the Poza Rica Water System Catchment near the town of Corralillos,” the CAEV reported through its Operating Office.

Pemex explained that the rains also affected the municipality of Álamo Temapache, where company personnel, with support from specialized companies, reinforced the containment barriers in the El Cabellal stream to prevent the displacement of traces of hydrocarbon towards the Pantepec River.
The Water Commission noted that, at the moment, the exact origin of the floating hydrocarbon detected in the Cazones River is unknown, but Pemex’s support has already been requested to address the emergency.
Recent flooding in the region has caused significant damage, including contamination of water bodies and loss of crops in Álamo Temapache. Residents of the area reported damage to crops and wells, and have demanded compensation from the state company.
Pemex assured that it remains attentive to the development of meteorological phenomena to continue applying containment and remediation protocols, with emphasis on protecting nearby communities and the environment.

Given the suspension of pumping, the CAEV asked the population of Poza Rica to rationalize the use of water. “The use and care of water is suggested, as well as being attentive to the official communications of this CAEV Poza Rica Operating Office,” the agency indicated.
