The much-awaited final season of Stranger Things, which Netflix ranks as its third-most popular English-language series worldwide, was scheduled to go live at 8 p.m. ET. The surge in viewership appeared to overwhelm the platform temporarily.
Netflix has previously experienced similar disruptions during major events, including the Mike Tyson–Jake Paul boxing match and the live-streamed episode of the reality show Love is Blind.
