MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— In the morning hours of this Monday, two spectacular accidents traffic police, firefighters and paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) to separate points of Merida.
The accidents occurred almost at the same time, one on the west side of the Peripheral from the city and the other in the Emiliano Zapata Oriente neighborhood.
Truck overturns on the Periférico
The information collected about the first accident indicates that, on the outer body of the Periférico, a Hyundai brand truck in which two women were traveling, unexpectedly, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, and due to the speed, at kilometer 38 the truck skidded on the edge of the road and fell headlong into the ravine that divides the bodies of the Periférico.
Motorists passing through the area stopped and approached to provide help. As best they could, they managed to get the people out of the vehicle and helped them until the SSP agents assigned to the Mérida Periférico arrived. Firefighters and paramedics also arrived at the scene, where the women were taken to an ambulance and, after being evaluated, it was determined that none of them required to be transferred to a hospital.
A few minutes later a tow truck arrived and returned the truck to its normal and relocated position. Meanwhile, state agents carried out a road operation to prevent traffic from being affected.
Collides with an Ie-Tram bus
Regarding the accident in the east of Mérida, other SSP paramedics treated a woman and a child who were traveling in a car which collided with an Ie-Tram bus.
In this case, the woman was driving a Gran i10 type car with which she crossed the exclusive lane of the Ie-Tram through a “prohibited” area, where the neighbors removed some plastic bars to go from the Los Reyes neighborhood to the Emiliano Zapata Oriente neighborhood, because there is no other crossing nearby. It should be noted that traffic lights were installed at this intersection, but after a while they stopped working.
The woman tried to cross the Ie-Tram exclusive lane with her car, however the bus was close and the driver could not avoid the collision with the Hyundai subcompact.
Although the woman and the child suffered some injuries, neither required being transferred to a hospital, so they remained at the scene so that, with the help of their relatives and the insurance companies, the person responsible for the accident could reach an agreement on the payment of damages with the representatives of the Ie-Tram company.
